In-Person and Online Classes

All of our after school programs (MiT, Mathletes, MSM) are being offered in-person and online through Zoom. Our online curriculum has been developed and refined over the last 14 years. Students collaborate in small groups in-person or in breakout rooms and engage with challenging problems through Quia. They receive help and supervision from their coach and assistant coaches.  Students who do not have access to in-person classes at their school should contact school leadership, carpool to another school, or enroll in online classes.  Make-up classes are easy to do through the online classes, and are encouraged.

Mathletes in Training

There is so much to the world of math that kids don't see in school! In our classes, your kids will discover that math is visual, hands-on, and FUN!

In our classes students will

* Develop their spatial intelligence, number sense, pattern recognition, and modeling skills using linking cubes.

* Develop problem solving skills with engaging questions from Math Kangaroo and other in-house math competitions.

* Cultivate deductive reasoning by systematically solving different types of puzzles (Japanese Logic Puzzles, Algebra puzzles, etc).

* Practice their fluency and develop intuition for probability through games involving cards and dice.

Our ultimate goal is to help students build their confidence and cultivate a love for math.  After completing this program, your students will hit the ground running when they enter Mathletes as 4th graders.

Mathletes

Students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade will tackle fun problems from Math Olympiads, Math Kangaroo and Fan4. They will also participate in both formal and informal team competitions. Mathletes will be solving challenging problems every week in practice.

Our proprietary curriculum is available online and through print-outs. As a result, students have the opportunity to tackle fun challenges throughout the week in practice AND at home.  We have organized problems into progressively more difficult problem sets. This gives Mathletes multiple opportunities to feel successful. All answers can be processed online, giving students immediate feedback.

We will take 5 Olympiads during our regularly scheduled practices. Our team will be in Division E (4th, 5th, and 6th graders). Each Olympiad contains 5 problems and lasts ~30 minutes.  Students are encourage to participate in Math Kangaroo as well, either through their school or through the CKMathletes Online option.  Younger students can participate in Junior Olympiads.

Almost every week we will take an excursion and explore a logic puzzle, math game, building challenge, or topic from graph theory. This enables students to further develop their spatial intelligence, capacities for deductive reasoning and pattern recognition, number sense, and more.

Homework is strongly encouraged.

Middle School Mathletes

The Middle-School-Mathletes programs are designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders (and very talented/ brave students in lower grades). Students train for a range of Middle School Math Competitions, including Math Olympiad, AMC8, Mathcounts, Mathleague, and Purple Comet. In the past some of our students have achieved the highest MOEM awards for individuals and teams. This is a great opportunity to challenge our students and to prepare them for competitions they will continue to tackle throughout Middle School. The problems are hard - but within reach.

Homework is strongly encouraged. Problems will come from old competitions, textbooks, the Mathcounts School Handbook, and a variety of other sources. All answers are processed online.

MSM I is our introductory course to creative problem solving for middle school students. All students, from grades 6th-8th, are encouraged to start with this class, unless they have a significant background in problem solving and competitions.

MSM II/III is our follow up course to MSM I. Students participate in many of the same competitions. However, we focus on the harder problems and more advanced problem solving techniques.
